In Canada what started as a student protest against tuition fee hikes has now turned into a much broader protest movement with demands ranging from economic to environmental, humanitarian issues and police harsh crackdown.

Can the authorities stem its growth and how is all this affecting a revived debate on an independent Quebec, the heart of the recent protests?
