America's Pacific Century: Containing China
by grtv

Dr. Chandra Muzaffar, President of the International Movement for a Just World analyses a wide variety of issues including the emerging BRICS nations, the crisis in Syria, and the implications of Washington's policy shift to the Asia-Pacific region.

In January 2012, US President Barack Obama unveiled the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance report, entitled, "Sustaining U.S. Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defense," which confirmed America's plans to drastically increase its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region to counter China, now the world's second-largest economy.

Following a speech by US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta at the eleventh annual Shangri-La Dialogue defense summit in Singapore calling for the expansion of American alliances with defense treaty partners in the Asia-Pacific such as Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand, the United States would announce its plans to reposition 60% of its navy to the region by 2020.

The increasing militarization of the Asia Pacific highlights a growing emphasis on containing China, in a move to enhance Washington's presence in one of the most economically viable parts of the world.

Very fine interview. It's a little confusing, but should we expect less with the kind of messy, say, politics involved? I don't think so. Washington, Israel, and so on, really seem to enjoy making this world far more confusing (and painful) than is Natural. What they do is unbelievable, except that there's a little problem with that & what it is is that it's real; instead of only unbelievable. Anyway, Dr. Muzaffar spoke very well. He clearly is very careful about what he says. Instead of sounding off like yet another fanatic he's very careful about knowing what he speaks of and doesn't state any firm predictions. It's a good analysis. The interview was putting me to sleep at first, but sticking with it proved that he provided a good analysis. It might leave some people a little confused, for he doesn't refer to only one country that's a target of the USA, i.e., Washington, et al; involving Syria, Iran and North Korea, if not also another one or two countries. What stood out to me are these three though.

Bill Rummel wrote, "Hogwash! The task before Americans is containing their OWN government!"
I don't see why the expression Hogwash was used, for Dr Muzaffar certainly doesn't say or infer that Americans don't need to contain Washington. Bill Rummel seems to be saying that Dr Muzaffar said the contrary and I don't find that at all in what he said.
